A safe home starts with a solid roof. When a roof fails, it puts everything beneath it at risk—health, safety, and stability. The Critical Roof Repair Program from Habitat for Humanity of Southern Brazoria County exists to help local homeowners address urgent roofing issues that threaten their ability to remain safely housed.
This program provides affordable, income-based roof repairs and roof replacements for qualified homeowners across Southern Brazoria County. Our goal is simple but powerful: to preserve safe, decent housing and prevent displacement caused by critical home repairs that homeowners cannot afford on their own.
The Critical Roof Repair Program is designed for low-income homeowners, with a strong focus on:
Eligibility is generally based on household income between 30% and 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI). All applicants must own and occupy the home as their primary residence.
We understand that many homeowners fall into the gap—earning too much to qualify for traditional assistance, but not enough to cover major repairs. This program exists to bridge that gap and keep families safely in their homes.

Roof issues are more than cosmetic—they are often structural and can create serious health and safety risks. Through this program, Habitat may assist with:
All repairs are evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine urgency, safety impact, and available funding.
One of the core principles of Habitat for Humanity is affordability. Roof repairs through this program are typically offered at low or no cost to the homeowner. In some cases, assistance may be provided through a sliding scale or affordable repayment structure, depending on income level and available funding.
Our goal is not to create financial burden—but to provide a path forward that protects both the home and the homeowner’s long-term stability.
Participation in the Critical Roof Repair Program requires a formal application. Applicants should be prepared to provide:
